Justin Q. Slaughter, a former top aide to state Sen. Kwame Raoul, was appointed to this seat early last year after longtime representative Monique Davis retired. In his first year, he sponsored legislation signed by the governor to provide prison inmates with training to develop skills for computers, public speaking and general business. He is also behind proposed reforms for juvenile criminal justice.
Slaughter is brushing up on the myriad ways his district, which includes Far South Side communities, can benefit from the planned extension of the CTA Red Line. He strikes us a capable advocate for the people of the district.
He is endorsed over special education teacher Tawana J. (T.J.) Robinson of Washington Heights. Robinson backed out of an interview with the Sun-Times Editorial Board.
