The girlfriend of Anthony Huber, one of two men killed in Kenosha, spoke briefly to protesters late Wednesday near the spot where he died the night before.

“He was one of the most amazing people ... “ Hannah Gittings said. “He had so much love in his heart for this city ... he took down an armed gunman with nothing but his f——— skateboard, and he took that f——— bullet,” she said before breaking down in tears.

Huber, 26, of Silver Lake, and Joseph “Jojo” Rosenbaum, 36, of Kenosha, died Tuesday night, and a 26-year-old man from West Allis was shot and is expected to recover.

In a Facebook post earlier Wednesday, Gittings urged people to “go out there and skate as hard as you can” in Huber’s memory.

At Basik skatepark in Kenosha, mourners paid their respects to Huber, who was a well-known skateboarder. Chalk notes read #SkateForHuber and called him a hero. Three people there early Wednesday evening said they knew Huber but declined to speak to a reporter.

A GoFundMe page set up for Huber’s girlfriend and stepdaughter raised more than $60,000 in less than 24 hours.

Authorities arrested 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse of Antioch on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide, said Commander Norman Johnson of the Antioch Police Department.

“Anthony [Huber] is an American patriot and we should all be so lucky to have folks like him to defend this country from White Supremacists,” one comment on the fundraising page said.

Rosenbaum leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter. He was originally from Waco, Texas, but stayed in Wisconsin to be close to his daughter, his sister said Wednesday night.

She wants her older brother to be remembered as the man he was. He loved to draw, she said; he was goofy and crazy; he loved playing jokes on everybody.

And he also was a compassionate father. “He loved his daughter very much.”

His sister discouraged people from contributing to a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for his burial. While the creator of the page couldn’t be reach for comment, the woman said on social media that she had permission from Rosenbaum’s partner.

“We have expenses covered. We have a pastor helping with transport; we have another funeral home that I used to work with, they’re covering the memorials. We don’t need a GoFundMe page,” his sister said.

The third victim Gaige Grosskreutz, 26, of West Allis, is a member of the People’s Revolution Movement of Milwaukee, a social justice group. He was shot in the arm, another protester, Oscar Walton, said Wednesday.

“His whole reason for being out here was to provide medical services to protesters in Kenosha, and when Gaige tried to detain [the active shooter], he got shot in the arm,” Walton said.
