Vehicle burglar fires shots at homeowner in Joliet: police

Joliet police are searching for a burglar who fired shots at another person Friday after being caught inside a vehicle parked in the person’s driveway.

About 2:40 a.m., the resident’s home security system alerted them to movement in their driveway in the 3300 block of Crazy Horse Drive, Joliet police said. When they turned on the outdoor lights, they saw a male in a white hoodie in a vehicle parked there.

The resident went out to confront the suspect, who ran to a waiting dark-colored vehicle, police said. As the suspect got in, he fired multiple shots towards the resident before fleeing.

No one was injured in the incident, police said, but the person’s home was struck by bullets.

“If you see someone burglarizing a vehicle, do not approach the person. It is not worth getting injured or risking your life,” Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner said. “The best and safest course of action is to immediately call the police and give a description of what the person is wearing and their last direction of travel.”
