In the wake of the Navy Yard shootings on Monday, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) cancelled a Tuesday hearing on the “Stand Your Ground” laws. The Senate Judiciary panel hearing had been scheduled in the wake of the Trayvon Martin murder in Florida and George Zimmerman’s acquittal for the shooting.

“In light of today’s tragic shooting at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C., tomorrow’s hearing on stand your ground laws has been postponed to a later date,” a Durbin spokesman said.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) had been scheduled to testify at the hearing.
