SHARE Sweet blog special: Obama fund-raising. California best state. Chicago's 60614 best zip code.

CHICAGO–White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) has another fund-raiser in the Los Angeles area this week; California continues to be his most fertile ground to dig up campaign dollars. Goldman Sachs remains one of the top employers of Obama givers.

But his friends and supporters Chicago lead in metro area giving. Most specifially, Obama’s best zip code is 60614. That near downtown zipcode also scoops in people who list their office address on official records instead of their residence.

The top zip codes for Obama are 60614 in Chicago; 10021 in Manhattan; 60611, 60610 in Chicago and 20008 in northwest Washington D.C.

HOW TO READ THESE CHARTS: Presidential candidates generally raise the vast majority of their campaign dollars from donors in states with the largest concentrations of population and wealth: New York, California, Florida, Washington, D.C., Illinois and Texas. In addition, they may also receive significant amounts from within their home state, depending on the size of the state and the wealth of its economic base.

“No State” means that there was no state listed on contribution report.

METHODOLOGY: The numbers on this page are calculated from contributions of more than $200 from individuals, as reported to the Federal Election Commission. PAC dollars are not included.

NOTE: All the numbers on this page are for the 2008 election cycle and based on Federal Election Commission data released electronically on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Help! The numbers don’t add up…”)
