The Navy Yard massacre and the latest shootings in Chicago are sparking new rounds of outrage, but let’s face it, the volume could be turned up. President Barack Obama on Sunday said he fears where we are heading: resigned to accepting gun violence with a collective shrug because it happens so often now it is the “new normal.” My Monday column on Obama’s lament is HERE.

Echoing previous public statements, Gov. J.B. Pritzker — noticeably absent from the Bears unveiling — again brushed aside the latest proposal, which includes more than $2 billion in private funds but still requires taxpayer subsidies, saying it “isn’t one that I think the taxpayers are interested in getting engaged in.”
