WASHINGTON —South Africa’s hero and former President Nelson Mandela, is dead at 95, South Africa President Jacob Zuma is announcing. “Our nation has lost its greatest son,” he is saying.

“President Mandela brought us together,” Zuma is saying. Mandela will have a state funeral.

President Barack Obama will make statement on the death of Mandela at 5:20 p.m. ET from the White House briefing room.
