Takeways on The ‘Duck Dynasty’ controversy

WASHINGTON – Takeaways on the continuing controversy over remarks “Duck Dynsasty” star Phil Robertson made about gays and African-Americans in a GQ interview titled, aptly, “What the Duck?”

My thoughts:

1. His remarks show a remarkable degree of insensitivity to gays and African-Americans.

2. This is not a First Amendment issue. No one is stopping him from expressing his thoughts. He does not have a right to a platform on a tv show.

3. Robertson works for A&E. The network has a right to suspend him because of his remarks. You can’t say things with impunity in the marketplace.

4. He did a GQ interview to get publicity for the show. Well, he got it.
