Flexing his financial muscle, venture capitalist Bruce Rauner put another $1 million into his campaign fund, his campaign reported today. Rauner’s campaign tells the Sun-Times it has raised $7 million since launching its campaign for governor last summer.

Rauner has donated more than $2 million to his campaign, a move that last quarter blew the caps on donations for all the candidates — including Democratic incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn.

Rauner’s campaign last month reported raising $4 million total in the fourth quarter of 2013 alone. By comparison, Dan Rutherford’s campaign said it would likely log about $400,000 in fund-raising for the quarter.

Rauner, a multi-millionaire, has said he was prepared to spend millions on his candidacy.
