A new poll shows Democratic state Sen. Michael Frerichs has closed the gap in the treasurer’s race against Republican state Rep. Tom Cross.

The Reboot Illinois/We Ask America poll shows Cross with the 40-39 advantage, which is within the 2.98 percent margin of error. Libertarian candidate Matthew Skopek comes in at 6 percent, with 15 percent of the 1,083 polled saying they’re undecided.

The Treasurer’s race has fluctuated a bit, though Republican Tom Cross has never trailed in our polls, said We Ask America Chief Operating Officer Gregg Durham. But Democrat Michael Frerichs has closed the gap a bit, and this is anyone’s race.

Of those polled, 27 percent identified themselves as Republicans, 35 percent as Democrats and 38 percent as independents.
