U.S. economy adds 248,000 jobs in September

SHARE U.S. economy adds 248,000 jobs in September

The nation’s employers added 248,000 jobs in September, pushing the U.S. unemployment rate to 6-year low of 5.9 percent.

That was even better than economists had forecast. It had been predicted that employers would add 215,000 jobs last month, according to a survey by FactSet. That would have matched the average monthly gain this year, up from last year’s average of 194,000.

In August, employers added just 142,000 jobs after topping 200,000 for six straight months, the longest such stretch since 1997.
