Tom Cross is looking past his Republican primary opponent in his campaign for Illinois Treasurer and honing in on a possible general election challenger in a new ad that is to hit Tuesday.

In the new TV ad, Cross attacks state Sen. Mike Frerichs, D-Champaign, for the 67 percent income tax hike.

Cross, the former Illinois House Minority Leader, faces CPA Bob Grogan in the March 18 primary campaign. Recent polls have shown, however, Cross holding a large lead. “Early voting starts today and voters are definitely paying more attention to the campaigns and candidates as we head into the final two weeks,” said Cross campaign spokesman Kevin Artl. “Overall, the goal of the ad is to share with voters Tom’s goals for the office of Treasurer, which include focusing on balancing the budget and cracking down on fraud and corruption, while also highlighting some of the key policy differences he has with Sen. Frerichs and Gov. Quinn.”
