How has marriage equality spread across the United States since 2000? Thanks to an interactive map from Mother Jones, you can now watch how the laws have been changed, year by year, state by state.

One of the most striking things about the map is the accelerated pace at which states are recognizing same-sex marriages. In all, the District of Columbia and 21 states recognize a form of same-sex unions.
