They were calling to sign up for health insurance. Instead, they got an offer for “hot ladies.”

And that’s because a typo on California’s Affordable Care Act healthcare exchange website, mistakenly was directing hearing-impaired callers to a phone sex hotline.

The number should have been 1-888-889-4500, but instead read 1-888-899-4500.

Some people trying to get insurance got a little something different.

When contacted by CBS Sacramento, a spokesperson for Covered California denied the incorrect number ever appeared on the site — but then was presented with a screenshot.

“After investigating it further, we are reviewing the shop and compare tool as an incorrect number,” said the spokesperson who declined an on-camer interview . “We’re currently working to correct the problem.” It was fixed as of Monday evening, the last day of open enrollment.”

The number on the website has since been fixed as of late Monday.
