WASHINGTON–With the situation in Iraq growing more dangerous, President Barack Obama on Thursday added a meeting with his national security team to his schedule as well as a public statement, coming at 12:30 p.m. ET.

This morning, the President will meet with members of his national security team in the Situation Room. This meeting is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will deliver a statement on the situation in Iraq. The President’s statement in the Brady Press Briefing Room is open press.

DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2014

In the morning, the President will join a meeting of the President’s Export Council in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.  The President’s Export Council advises the President on policies and programs that affect U.S. trade performance and promote export expansion.   As part of the focus on manufacturing and innovation this week, the President will participate in a discussion about opportunities for the U.S. to take advantage of growing manufacturing competitiveness and new innovative technologies to grow our exports and create more American jobs. The meeting will be livestreamed on www.WhiteHouse.gov/live. The President’s remarks are pooled press.

In the afternoon, the President will award Corporal William “Kyle” Carpenter, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry. The First Lady will also attend. Corporal Carpenter will receive the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions while serving as an Automatic Rifleman with Company F, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division (Forward), I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Corporal Carpenter will be the eighth living recipient to be awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan.  The President’s remarks in the East Room are open to pre-credentialed media; the deadline to RSVP has closed.
