Lightfoot quotes Trump Tower website to Trump in tweet after he compared Chicago to ‘living in hell’

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot clapped back at President Donald Trump Friday over the president’s latest affront to the city.

In a Fox News town hall hosted by Sean Hannity Thursday night, Trump slammed the recent violence over Father’s Day weekend in Chicago where 104 people were shot, 12 fatally, as well as violence in Detroit, Oakland and Baltimore: “These cities, it’s like living in hell,” he said.

“Chicago is an example, it’s like, worse than Afghanistan, it’s worse than ... Honduras, Guatemala,” Trump said.

Trump blamed Democrats for the unrest, saying the places plagued by the worst shooting numbers are run by politicians on the left.

Lightfoot responded Friday by sharing a screenshot from trumphotels.com that featured a glowing description of Chicago, touting the city’s “acclaimed restaurants on every corner, world-class shopping along Magnificent Mile, award-winning shows, renowned history and cultural museums, and even sandy beaches.”

“What’s that you say, @realDonaldTrump?” wrote the mayor.

It’s far from the Chicago mayor’s first public sparring with the president. At a press conference May 29, Lightfoot said she had a message for Trump “that starts with ‘F’ and ends with ‘you’” in response to one of his tweets about Minneapolis that was later flagged by Twitter for “glorifying violence.”

When the president threatened to “deploy the United States military” to Chicago and other cities earlier this month, Lightfoot said she would “see him in court.”
