WASHINGTON — Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid’s office says he will undergo surgery on his right eye next week after an injury suffered in an exercise accident on New Year’s Day.
A written statement from the senator’s office says the surgery is a necessary step to assist him in recovering full vision in his right eye.
The statement says doctors will require Reid to remain at home next week after the surgery. The Nevada Democrat also suffered broken ribs in the accident, and his office says those injuries are healing well.
Reid on Tuesday made his first appearance in the Capitol since the accident, wearing a bandage over his right eye and showing visible facial bruising.
Reid, who is 75, has said he intends to seek a new term at the end of next year.
