Authorities investigating death of Roseland infant

Authorities are investigating after a 5-month-old girl died last week in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood.

Officers responded at 9:46 a.m. to a home in the 11300 block of South Edbrooke Avenue and found the child unresponsive, police News Affairs Officer Stacey Cooper said.

The 5-week-old — identified as London Thompson of the same block of Edbrooke — was taken to Roseland Community Hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy Sunday was inconclusive pending further studies, the medical examiner’s office said.

The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating allegations of neglect against both parents, spokeswoman Veronica Resa said.

A sibling has been placed with a relative under a DCFS-monitored safety plan, Resa said. The agency has had prior contact with the family, but not regarding this child, she said.

Chicago Police are conducting a death investigation, but would not say if anyone has been arrested or charged as of Monday morning.
