Teen shot dead on West Side

A 17-year-old boy was killed in an Austin shooting late Thursday on the West Side.

About 11:15 p.m., officers responding to a shooting found Ahmad Smith on a sidewalk in the 5900 block of West Thomas, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He had been shot in the “buttocks area” and was pronounced dead at the scene 10 minutes later, authorities said. Smith lived in the neighborhood.

No one was in custody for the shooting as of Friday morning.
