Michael Jordan, never one to shy away from competition, has hit the open water this week aboard his yacht, Catch 23, to compete in the White Marlin Open, according to TMZ. The six-time NBA champion is reportedly taking on some of the top anglers on the planet in the huge tournament in Ocean City, Maryland.
Reports earlier in the week said Jordan’s yacht had been registered to compete in the 46th edition of the White Marlin Open. TMZ says Jordan is among those fishing in the competition and hasn’t caught anything yet according to official statistics. Jordan’s spokesperson, Estee Portnoy, wouldn’t confirm or deny the former Bulls star’s participation.
The White Marlin Open, which boasts it’s the “World’s Largest & Richest Billfish Tournament” on its website, includes roughly $6 million in prizes.
Catch 23, Jordan’s yacht, stretches 80 feet long and features Air Jordan 3-inspired print:
Jordan has been known to try his hand at many sports beyond basketball. He played football in high school, left the NBA to play minor league baseball in the mid-1990s and has played in many celebrity golf tournaments.
