Cubs rookie shortstop Addison Russell didn’t travel with the team to San Francisco on Monday night and stayed in Chicago awaiting the birth of his first son.

Russell and his fiancé Melisa Reidy had a healthy baby boy Aiden Kai Margallo Russell.

Russell will not be in the lineup against the Giants on Tuesday, and spent the day in Chicago with his new son. There’s no indication when the rookie shortstop will return. Starlin Castro will start as his replacement.
