Clear Ridge, a team of 15- and 16-year-old boys from the Garfield Ridge and Clearing neighborhoods on the Southwest Side, won the Senior League World Series, beating a team from Australia 7-2 in the championship game in Bangor, Maine.
Zach Verta allowed one unearned run and two hits and struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings, Noah Miller went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Gage Olszak had a two-run triple for Clear Ridge, which became the first team from Illinois to win the title.
