Danny Almonte knows a thing or two about vacating Little League victories.
The former Little League phenom led his team from the Bronx to a third-place finish in the Little League World Series in 2001. The problem? Almonte was 14 when he pitched for the Little League team — two years older than is allowed.
Almonte chimed in on the latest Little League scandal, this one involving Jackie Robinson West vacating its U.S. championship after using players from outside its boundary.
“Those African-American kids did good, and they want to take that away from them. I don’t think that’s fair.”
“I don’t want to sound racist, but it’s always something against Latin or African-American teams.”
“And it’s not those kids’ fault either. That’s not fair to them. That’s not fair for the whole Chicago city. I know you are proud of that team.”
