Kyle Hendricks is examined by PJ Mainville during Saturday’s fourth inning.

Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks was forced from Saturday’s Game 2 playoff start after being struck by a line drive off the bat of Giants’ left fielder Angel Pagan.

Hendricks, who was hit on the forearm, threw a few practice pitches under the supervision of the trainer and was then pulled from the game by manager Joe Maddon.

X-rays were negative, said team officials, who said Hendricks bruised the forearm.

He would not be scheduled to start again until a possible National League Championship Series game, a week or more away.

With the Cubs leading 4-2, left-hander Travis Wood replaced Hendricks in the game and handed a 5-2 lead to Carl Edwards Jr. in the sixth.

The extra run? It was Wood’s home run in the bottom of the fourth — the second in postseason history by a relief pitcher (Rosy Ryan of the Giants in the 1924 World Series).

Wood became the third Cubs pitcher to homer in a postseason game, joining Kerry Wood in 2003 and Rick Sutcliffe in 1984.
