Jay Williams says Bulls made big bets with Jordan over Rock, Paper, Scissors game

Former Bulls point guard Jay Williams had his NBA career derailed by injuries before it got started. It was his own brashness that made him defy his contract and ride the motorcycle that he would crash — completely altering the course of his basketball career.

However, this isn’t the end of Williams’ costly NBA endeavors. He told News.com about a tale of fellow Bulls players gambling with Michael Jordan, and risking $100,000 on a games of paper, scissors, rock.

When you see other guys on planes gambling money … you start living that life. I used to have dudes on our team who were messing around with MJ. And MJ was like, ‘Bet it back, bet this back.’ Think about gambling to the next degree. Rock, paper, scissors you bet $20,000 all day long. Why wouldn’t you? You get bored. And don’t get yourself down in the dice game. Don’t be in the corner and let some dude keep fading you out and all of a sudden you’re down $100,000 and he’s like, ‘Yo bet it back, rock, paper, scissors for $100,000.’

Williams had signed a $4.1 million-per-year contract with the team. He also saw payments in his second year, despite his career-ending injuries.

The Bulls never got to see what Williams could turn into as a pro but he’ll definitely go down in history as one of the best hoopers to never make it.
