BOURBONNAIS — Wide receiver Kevin White will likely have surgery to insert a rod into his left tibia sometime this week.

“I don’t want to definitely say, but I think within the week is the target,” Bears coach John Fox said Sunday. “Don’t hold me to that because I’m not the surgeon. It’ll be within the week.”

The rookie began training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list. After pain returned during light running last week, the Bears decided to opt for surgery. They made the announcement Saturday.

The Bears are searching for a replacement receiver, both on their team and around the league. If they plan to use Eddie Royal outside rather the slot, they haven’t told the free agent signee.

“That’s kind of up to the coaches,” he said. “I really don’t know the plan.”
