If there is any question if Cubs rookie Kyle Schwarber can hit at the major league level, that should all be answered now. The young catcher hit an absolute no-doubter in the top of the ninth inning against the Reds to tie the game up.
While the end result was about as good as anyone could ask for, the entire at bat was impressive. Schwarber fell behind 0-2 to Reds pitcher J.J. Hoover before battling back to a full count. That’s when he took the boom stick out.

Schwarber’s reaction was all any fan should need to know about how good the young ball player can be. The catcher knew right away the ball was long gone, and had no problem treating it as such.
This is just Schwarber’s eighth career major league start. But his approach at the plate Tuesday night alone should have the Cubs ready for more.
Kyle Schwarber: only his 8th career Major League start… and he already has three 3-hit games. Ridiculous. #Cubs

Schwarber is still trying to find his footing defensively. As a catcher he is far from ready to play in the bigs, and doesn’t have the experience in the outfield just yet. But with a bat like his, the Cubs will be more than willing to let him go through the growing pains in the field.
