SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Super Bowl has been a long time coming for former Naperville Central star Owen Daniels, who finally made it in his 10th NFL season.
“It means everything,” said Daniels, a two-time Pro Bowl tight end who had two touchdown receptions in the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots. “Really, why I’m still playing football is to get the opportunity to play in this game. Ten years is a long wait, but 100 percent worth it. I’m going to enjoy it and be in the moment and hopefully have a great outcome on Sunday.”
Even quarterback Peyton Manning noticed the veteran’s excitement. He spoke Monday at SAP Center, where the NFL hosted it’s first-ever “Opening Night” interview session.
“I sit behind Owen on the plane; he’s fired up, and he should be,” Manning said. “Seeing other people enjoy the moment reminds me that I need to enjoy the moment as well.”
