Not biggest Fish of the Week: But really, good old story

SHARE Not biggest Fish of the Week: But really, good old story

This story got bumped a few times, but I kept saving it for its main point of the good old story.

Gertrude Wimmer of LaGrange showed you are never too old to have a fishing adventure. Both she and her daughter Joanie Rae Wimmer of Countryside hooked the same northern pike while fishing the Des Plaines River at the Santa Fe Prairie in Hodgkins in September.

They are not sure who hooked it first. One was casting a spoon and the other using a night crawler.

“This is probably not the largest fish submitted this week, but I think it is cool that an 85-year-old was out fishing at the Santa Fe prairie and caught a beautiful fish,’’ Joanie Rae Wimmer said.

It is cool.

FOTW, the celebration of big fish and good stories around Chicago fishing, appears Wednesdays on the Sun-Times outdoors page.
