Connaughton is quite an athlete. He recorded a 96-mph fastball while pitching in the minor leagues for the Baltimore Orioles. His career advisor is Sam Samardzija, the father of White Sox pitcher and former Irish football player Jeff Samardzija.
“He’s not common—kind of like Jeff and [NFL quarterback] Russell Wilson,” Sam Samardzija told ESPN. “Not a lot of guys like him come around. He’s just wired differently.”
