Needing help at safety because of injuries, the Bears began Quintin Demps’ 21-day clock to return from injured reserve after a broken forearm, allowing him to practice Thursday. Still, Demps said Sunday was probably too soon to return to games.

“We got a lot of safeties that have been down,” said Demps, a team captain, “so I got to help out a little more than I have been.”

The Bears called upon another familiar face to help with depth, signing Chris Prosinski, who they cut with an injury designation at the end of training camp.

The Bears practiced Thursday without safety Deon Bush, who hurt his knee in practice Wednesday, and starter Adrian Amos, who injured his hamstring Sunday. DeAndre Houston-Carson, primarily a special teamer, sat out with an ankle injury.

Demps’ return to practice means the Bears, as expected, won’t bring receiver Kevin White off IR.
