How crazy has Russell Westbrook’s run on the stat book been? In between recording his third and fourth consecutive triple-doubles, the Thunder guard had surgery on his face.
On Friday, Westbrook had 40 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists and one broken cheek bone in a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. After surgery on Saturday, he missed Sunday’s game against the Lakers.
Donning a face mask, Westbrook returned Wednesday night with some more super-hero numbers: 49 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists. Since the All-Star break, Westbrook is averaging 33.7 points, 10.6 rebounds and 11.2 assists. The numbers have put the seven-year veteran in elite company.
Russell Westbrook is the 1st player with 4 straight triple-doubles since Michael Jordan had 7 straight in 1988-89.
