Trayce Thompson has been an extra-base machine

Since being called up, White Sox rookie outfielder Trayce Thompson has hit the cover off the ball. But Thompson isn’t just getting on base, he’s getting extra bases at a ridiculous pace.

After a double and a triple during the White Sox second game of a doubleheader on Monday, Thompson now has an extra-base hit in more than half of his hits on the season.

Thompson has a total of 27 hits through Monday’s twin bill. That is made up of eight doubles, four home runs and two triples. For as impressive as a .342 average is for a young hitter, his .646 slugging percentage is eye-popping.

His big bat has forced manager Robin Ventura to move him from a platoon player, mostly against lefties, to a full-time player.

In a season that has gone wrong in so many ways, the performance coming from Thompson each game has been a big bright spot.
