Patrick Kane said last week that he loves the NHL’s new 3-on-3 overtime format, but it’s hard to imagine anyone loves it more than Jonathan Toews.

Toews scored his NHL-leading fifth overtime goal of the season Thursday to lift the Blackhawks to a 5-4 victory in Arizona.

The goal was Toews’ second of the game and his 21st of the season. He joins Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane as the only players to have scored 20 or more goals in each of the past nine seasons.

Toews was suspended for Tuesday night’s win after skipping the 3-on-3 All-Star game last weekend in Nashville – a shame considering his dominance in the format. No other player has more than three overtime goals this season.

Toews scored a shorthanded goal to give Chicago a 2-1 lead in the second period.
