What We Saw: Day 10 of Bears camp, ‘Family Fest’

The Chicago Sun-Times’ Patrick Finley and Mark Potash break down the ninth practice (and 10th  day overall) of Bears training camp, the “Family Fest” scrimmage held at Soldier Field:

WWE stuff

Kyle Long was in the middle of a jog around Soldier Field when a fight broke out Saturday between guard Ted Larsen and Lamin Barrow. Standing in the end zone, Long broke into a full sprint — for 55 yards! — and dove into a pile. Seeing that, defenders bolted off the sideline to join the fray. It was pro wrestling stuff — and dangerous. A few teammates told him as much. … Larsen, for those keeping score, has been in four fights in nine practices. He wasn’t allowed to fight when he played for the Cardinals — players had to run gassers, immediately — so he didn’t. … Fox said Saturday the Bears were “getting too close to games” to fight; their exhibition opener is Thursday against the Broncos. … “Family Fest” seemed an inopportune time for a brawl, no? … Long has been running laps to improve his conditioning after missing four full practices earlier in camp because of a left calf strain.

White’s all right

After a day off Friday, WR Kevin White returned for Family Fest and had two catches, including one over the middle from Jay Cutler for a first down in the scrimmage that elicited a response from the Soldier Field crowd. … Robbie Gould was 10-for-10 on FGs, including a 49-yarder in the scrimmage, with Aaron Brewer snapping and Pat O’Donnell holding. … John Timu made a couple of nice stops in the scrimmage, dropping Jeremy Langford for a two-yard loss on one. … Rookie RB Jordan Howard didn’t give an inch vs. Eddie Goldman and Willie Young to gain tough yards up the middle. Howard also escaped Lamarr Houston to convert a fourth-down play. … Not participating: WRs Alshon Jeffery, Eddie Royal, Marquess Wilson and Derek Keaton; TEs Zach Miller, Greg Scruggs and Ben Braunecker; LBs Pernell McPhee, Danny Travathan,Nick Kwiatkoski and Roy Robertson-Harris. … Royal and Wilson played catch on the sideline. … Jeffery helped with the healthy WRs in pre-scrimmage drills.
