The White Sox have claimed catcher Rob Brantly off waivers from the Miami Marlins, the team announced Monday.
Brantly was Miami’s opening day starting catcher in 2013 after hitting .290 with three home runs in 100 at-bats in 2012. He struggled, though, and hit .225 (46-for-204) in 59 games before being sent to Triple-A.
Brantly, a 25-year-old left-handed hitter, had a .255 average (93-364) with four home runs and 37 RBIs in 101 games last season with Class AAA New Orleans.
