Part of Route 171 in Maywood will be closed starting Monday as crews work on a storm sewer and resurfacing project.
The full closure of Route 171 at Lake Street, near the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing, started Monday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
A contractor for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago will be working on the storm sewer there and reconstructing manholes during that time, IDOT said.
A posted detour will take southbound traffic around the area via Lake Street, 5th Avenue and Madison Street, IDOT said.
During the closure, Union Pacific Railroad will also perform maintenance work on the at-grade crossing. The road will have a new crossing service by June 1.
The water reclamation district’s overall project will wrap up in November, IDOT said. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra travel time.
