Snickers wasn’t successful in changing the date of Halloween, but it’s still delivering on its promise to give away free candy.

Snickers, which is made by Mars, Incorporated, on Chicago’s Northwest Side, supported the Halloween & Costume Association’sChange.org petitiontomove Halloween to the last Saturday of Octoberby pledging 1 million free fun size bars if the federal government officially declared a Saturday Halloween.

The petition, also backed by Party City,has more than 150,000 signatures butafter the movement faced some opposition it evolved into an additional day of celebration–National Trick or Treat Day.

“We promised a million SNICKERS, and regardless of the date, we’re going to deliver,” said Josh Olken, the candy’s brand director, in a news release. “Whether fans enjoy their free SNICKERS themselves or hand them out to trick-or-treaters, we want everyone to have a satisfying Halloween.”
