Popeyes is known for its New Orleans-style fried chicken. Nowit’s bringing another local staple to restaurants nationwide.
For a limited time, the fast-food chain will serve chocolate beignets following an October market test in Boston and Baltimore.
The deep-fried pastries are stuffed with melted Hershey’s chocolate and covered in powdered sugar and come in three sizes. Recommended prices are three for $1.99, six for $3.99 and a dozen for $7.49, but the company notes price and participation may vary.
Noting that beignets can be messy and the powdered sugar can go everywhere, Popeyes also is launching limited-edition“Beignet Camo” hoodies to “camouflage the inevitable mess.”
The black hoodies with white splatters that look like powdered sugar will be sold at ThatLookFromPopeyes.com for $35 plus taxes, shipping and handling.
Sami Siddiqui, president ofPopeyes Louisiana Kitchen for the Americas, told USA TODAY in a statement that the chain’s culinary team is “continuously innovating” to create new menu items and seasonal desserts throughout the year.
“Popeyes is a brand with Louisiana roots, and beignets were a natural fit for our next dessert offering,”Siddiqui said, adding apple pie is always on the menu.
The dessert is a famous staple of New Orleans, where Popeyes was founded, although the chain now is headquartered in Miami.
