The Sox have purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler from Triple-A Charlotte.

He will start the Sox’ game against the Twins Friday at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Detwiler, 33, went 1-2 with a 3.98 ERA in eight games with Charlotte.

He allowed eight hits and three earned runs in six innings pitched in one game for the Mariners on Aug. 21, 2018 in his last appearance in the majors.

The Sox also designated first baseman/designated hitter Yonder Alonso for assignment, placed shortstop Tim Anderson on the 10-day injured list and recalled outfielder Daniel Palka on Friday.

Anderson suffered a high ankle sprain on Tuesday against the Red Sox.

The Sox traded minor league outfielder Alex Call to the Indians for Alonso on Dec. 15, 2018.

Alonso struggled for much of the 2019 season — with a hitting slash of .178/.275/.301 with seven home runs, 27 RBIs and 53 strikeouts against 29 walks for the year.

He only made 35 plate appearances during the month of June.

Alonso’s salary is $8 million this season and he has a $9 million club option for next season. The Sox owe him about $5 million and have a week to trade, outright or release him.
