Man fatally shot in Maywood

Shannon Newsome, 21, died of a gunshot wound to the chest, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A 21-year-old man was fatally shot Saturday in west suburban Maywood.

About 5 a.m., officers responded to a call of a man shot in the 1400 block of 6th Avenue, Maywood police said. Once they arrived they found Shannon Newsome with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Newsome was taken to the Loyola University Medical Center where he later died, police said.

An autopsy conducted Sunday confirmed that he died of his wounds, the medical examiner’s office said. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Maywood detectives are investigating.
