Man killed in Chatham shooting

The man was found shot in a building in the 7800 block of South Indiana Avenue, Chicago police said.

Two people were wounded, Aug. 26, 2019, in citywide shootings.

A black Chrysler sedan was seen fleeing the area of the shooting, police said.

A man was shot and killed Wednesday in Chatham on the South Side.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 1:53 a.m. and found the man in the vestibule of a building in the 7800 block of South Indiana Avenue, Chicago police said.

Devan L. Jones, 30, had been shot in the head, chest and abdomen, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He lived in the Gresham neighborhood.

There are no witnesses to the shooting, but a black Chrysler sedan was seen fleeing the area at high speed, police said.

Area South detectives are conducting a homicide investigation.
