Police are questioning a person of interest after two men were fatally shot Thursday in Burnside on the South Side.

About 12:54 p.m., Jaquon M. Burke and Gerrod Gibson, both 24, were walking in the 600 block of East 92nd Place when someone walked up to them and pulled out a handgun, according to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He opened fire and hit them both.

Burke was shot in the chest, and Gibson was hit in the back, authorities said. They were both taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were later pronounced dead.
