Man killed in Austin shooting

The 22-year-old was in a vehicle when someone opened fire and struck him in the head.

A man was killed in a shooting Monday in Austin on the West Side.

He was in a vehicle about 3:20 p.m. in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue when someone approached him and opened fire, Chicago police said.

Arkeese Newton, 22, was struck in the head and taken to Stroger Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

No arrests have been reported. Area North detectives are investigating.
