Former Mayor Jane Byrne's funeral is set for Monday morning

Chicago’s first and only female mayor will be laid to rest Monday after a funeral mass at St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Lincoln Park, where her grandparents were early parishioners.

Visitation for Jane Byrne, 81, will begin at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul, where Byrne’s mother also attended grammar school. A funeral mass at the church will follow at 11 a.m., celebrated by Monsignor Kenneth Velo.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office released the details of Byrne’s funeral Sunday afternoon.

The former mayor died Friday in hospice care, having been in poor health in recent years and suffering a stroke in January 2013.

Members of Byrne’s family will participate in the services. Her daughter, Kathy Byrne, will give words of remembrance.

The funeral procession to Calvary Cemetery in Evanston will make two brief stops after leaving the church: first in front of City Hall, and then at 111 E. Chestnut, Byrne’s home for most of her adult life.

Ald. Michele Smith (43rd) announced parking restrictions and street closures that will be in effect between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday. Parking restrictions include the west side of Sheffield between Webster and Dickens, both sides of Sheffield between Webster and Belden, both sides of Webster between Bissell and Kenmore, and the east side of Kenmore from Webster to Belden. Webster will be closed between Fremont and Seminary, and Sheffield will be closed between Fullerton and Dickens.
