Retiring Rep. Howard Coble gets incredible sendoff on House floor

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so on Wednesday night, fellow U.S. representatives from North Carolina donned some madras jackets to pay tribute to retiring Rep. Howard Coble, R-North Carolina. Coble is retiring after serving in Congress for nearly 30 years.

He is known for his unique fashion choices, and now, many others on the House floor will be as well — at least for the time being.

Rep. Richard Hudson had perhaps the most obnoxious one:

Rep. Virginia Foxx went with the pastels straight out of the early 1990s.

Rep. Patrick McHenry actually pulls off the look, complete with a matching bow tie.

Coble has not only embraced the madras jackets, but also the notoriety he’s gained from it.

For example, in 2013, Coble’s office even sent out a press release touting the following tweet from Bloomberg reporter Dave Weigel.

If you’re not in the House watching the CR vote, you’re missing Howard Coble wearing the best jacket ever. Like a turtle exploding.
