Woman’s death believed to be from overdose of ‘SASS’

(WAUKEGAN) Authorities are investigating the death of a northwest suburban woman who is believed to have overdosed on a form of ecstasy.

Cristina Villasana, 21, of Spring Grove was admitted to Vista Freestanding Emergency Center in Lindenhurst about 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to a statement from the Lake County sheriff’s office.

She was then transferred to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan, where she was pronounced dead at 7:52 p.m., authorities said.

Sheriff’s police believe Villasana ingested a synthetic drug known as “SASS,” a form of MDMA or ecstasy, about 10:30 p.m. Monday, according to the statement.

The people who drove Villasana to the hospital provided false information that hampered the investigation, according to the statement.

Investigators are working to identify the person who gave Villasana the drug, according to the statement.
