More than 115 flights canceled as snow dusts Chicago

More than 115 flights have been canceled at Chicago’s airports as the first real snow of the season fell Monday.

As of noon, half an inch of snow had fallen at O’Hare, according to the National Weather Service. More than an inch had fallen in Rockford, and at the NWS offices in Romeoville, nearly an inch had fallen.

At O’Hare, more than 115 flights had been canceled and airlines are reporting delays up to 50 minutes, according to the city’s Department of Aviation.

At Midway, a few flights have been canceled and delays are averaging 40 minutes.

The temperature had fallen to 28 degrees in Chicago as of 3:50 p.m., from a high of around 47 early in the morning, according to the weather service.

The weather service warns the afternoon commute could be hazardous as snow continues to fall and temperatures continue to drop.

On Tuesday, the high is expected to be about 29 degrees with a slight chance of flurries before noon, according to the weather service.
