Before it started, she jammed two of her fingers. Before it ended, she managed to slightly roll both ankles.
A recipe for a career night? It was for Tinley Park junior Caitlin Sudduth, who on Thursday led the Titans to a 58-50 overtime victory over Shepard.
Tinley Park trailed 11-3 after one quarter and 22-12 at intermission before the 5-foot-7 guard turned the game around by scoring 12 points in the second half and nine in overtime.
Sudduth finished the night with 30 points on 12-of-19 from the field, adding 10 rebounds, six steals, three assists and two blocked shots.
Not bad for two jammed fingers and two rolled ankles.
“When she was (standing) next to me on the floor she kept saying, ‘I’m OK. I’m good,’ ” Titans coach Jason Becker said. “She did not want to come out of the game. She is one of the hardest workers I have ever been around.”
Sudduth averages 11.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.4 steals for the Titans, who are 14-6 overall and 6-1 in the South Suburban Blue.
“Sudds is becoming more consistent and really coming into her own,” Becker said. “She is our best ballhandler and has a real knack for getting to the rim.”
Back in form
Three weeks after suffering a concussion, Oak Lawn’s LaTondra Brooks returned to the court for the Spartans on Jan. 3 and scored 11 points off the bench in a victory over Bremen. Since then, the junior guard once again has resumed her role as a team leader.
Brooks had 18 points, four steals and five assists in a win over T.F. South. She tallied 18 points, five steals and five assists against T.F. North and poured in 21 points to go with six steals and five assists in 21/2 quarters against Mount Assisi.
“It was great to see her back in the starting lineup,” Oak Lawn coach Janet Haubenreiser Meyers said. “We are a different team defensively and offensively when LaTondra is on the floor. She does a great job of getting her teammates involved offensively, but when we need a big play she steps up and gets a steal or makes an unbelievable move to the basket. She makes things happen.”
