Video: Lyons’ Kurfirst on the beam

SHARE Video: Lyons’ Kurfirst on the beam

Lyons junior Kelsy Kurfirst is on target to win more medals in the state meet next month.

Kurfirst placed third on the balance beam (9.5) Saturday at Fremd’s Sopper Invitational. With a balcony overhanging the beam, I think this video adds more drama in terms of how thin four inches on the beam can look from above. I also was intrigued on how Kurfirst prepares the beam before starting her routine.

The invitational is named after former Fremd star Mari-Rae Sopper, who perished on 9-11 aboard American Airlines 77, which crashed into the Pentagon. Check out her website for information on how to donate to her memorial fund.

Kurfirst tied for second in the all-around at state last season and tied for third on the beam (9.425). She is the defending state champion on floor exercise.
